Up Juliaca to Puno [Peru] Slideshow

On arrival into Juliaca we were met for our trip to the hotel in Puno, stopping on the way to take in the pre-Inca burial ground of Sillustani. Here we wandered through the remarkable tombs built from volcanic stone. Known as Chullpas, these funerary towers reach heights of up to 12 metres. Overlooking the beautiful Lake Umayo, Sillustani is considered to be one of the most important necropolises in the world. Then on to Puno, a city in southern Peru on Lake Titicaca, one of South America's largest lakes and the world's highest navigable body of water. A regional trading hub, the city's also considered Peru's "folkloric capital" owing to its traditional festivals featuring vibrant music and dancing.
