| Puerto Montt is a port and industrial city in southern Chile’s Lake District, known as a gateway to the Andes mountains and the Patagonian fjords. This city is also known as the "northern door to Patagonia", because many trips through the south of Chile and to Patagonia start here. The first settlers came to Puerto Montt and neighbouring areas from Germany more than 150 years ago and their influence is still seen strongly here. In the schools here Spanish, German and English are taught. |
