Mt Batur Trek

 

Mount Batur is a popular trekking destination along with the higher Mt Agung. Presently the Mt Agung trekking is closed because of the rainy season making tracks dangerous. At 1717 metres Mt Batur is an active volcano located at the centre of two concentric calderas north west of Mount Agung (the highest in Bali). The last serious eruption of Mt Batur was in 1968 when the lava field tragically covered an entire village. The volcano was active again from 1997 to 2000, and in 2000 it shot 300 meters of ash above the crater.
