After leaving Cloncurry, we made the short (120km) drive on the Barkly Highway to Mount Isa. Mt Isa has developed since the discovery of lead deposits here by John Campbell Miles in 1923. The town developed from there with the mines on the western side of the Leichhardt River (mineside), and the town on the east side (townside), eventually being declared a city only in 1968; The newest city in Oz.
