| Carnarvon,(pop 9000) is the commercial centre for the rich Gascoyne district, at the mouth of the Gascoyne River. It seems a nice town and has some interesting history, including an early transport company owned by (Sir) Charles Kingsford Smith. The biggest problem the town faces is the serious shortage of water. The establishment of the satellite earth station for OTC and NASA was a catalyst for the growth of the town in the early 1960's. |
