York is Western Australia's most historic inland town; first settled in 1831, only 2 years after the establishment of the Swan River Colony. The historic City of Fremantle or 'Freo' - when passenger ships were the preferred mode of transport for world travellers, Fremantle was the western gateway to Australia and was the first port for millions of migrants arriving in Australia by ship.
