| This slide show is mostly about Gallipoli; known as Çanakkale Province to most Turks. This is a very moving site for Australian visitors especially around Anzac Day. We intentionally arrived there as the preparations were going on because of the extra difficulties we would have with road closures and negotiating our M/H on Anzac Day. There are many monuments to Allied and Turkish soldiers on the beaches and hills where the fighting took place. Very prominent are the many tributes to the Turkish hero, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. |
