Up 065 Austria, Wachau to the Czech Republic Prev Next Slideshow

On the day we were to leave Austria we decided to make a short detour. Dedicated in 1072, Göttweig abbey is a Benedictine monastery complex occupying a hilltop position overlooking the Danube and Wachau valley. After finding a suitable spot for our M/H we probably entered through the rear (south) gate into the main court. From here we are surrounded by beautiful grounds and the various buildings including; the Baroque church, the abbey palace (museum) with the imperial staircase, the tiny Chapel of St. Erentrudis, the Monastery library and many others.
