The Orkney Islands are full of interesting history from the Neolithic (New Stone Age) settlement at Skara Brae, ancient Cairns and standing stones to the transfer of ownership of the islands from Norway to Scotland. During WWI and WWII, the Skapa Flow was used as a natural harbour and important base for the British Fleet.
